Teldoc and Shifnal & Priorslee practices are actively supporting clinical research studies within primary care.

Research in the NHS is a vital to provide the evidence we need to transform services and improve outcomes and quality of care for patients. Throughout the Covid-19 pandemic, clinical research provided a beacon of hope and highlighted the vital role that research plays in improving healthcare for everyone.

National Institute for Health Research

Teldoc PCN work closely with colleagues from the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) which is the research arm of the NHS. Working with the NIHR means we can offer our patients high quality, innovate and exciting research opportunities.

Teldoc PCN have been accredited to the Royal College of GP’s ‘Research Ready’ programme, which means that all our research activity complies with the UK Research Governance Framework’s legal, ethical, professional and patient safety requirements.

What is Primary Care Research?

 Primary care research focuses on things such as:

  • Promoting a healthier lifestyle
  • Disease diagnosis and prevention
  • Management of long-term illnesses such as diabetes or hypertension
  • Prevention of future ill-health
  • Treating common conditions such as tonsillitis or influenza

What are the benefits of Primary Care Research?

Through participating in research, Teldoc PCN can:

  • Offer patients the opportunity to access new medications and treatments
  • Explore new and innovate ways of working and engaging with patients.
  • Offer patients the opportunity for patients to contribute to the general research effort to test discoveries that will help future generations.
  • Increase the skills and expertise of staff working at Teldoc PCN

 

How can you take part?

There are various ways you can get involved with research:

  • A doctor or nurse may talk to you about a particular study that you might be eligible for
  • You may be sent information through the post/text message if you are an eligible to participate.
  • You may read information about a current study in the patient waiting room or on the website and wish to take part. In this case, please speak to your doctor or nurse.

  • Please remember, you are under no obligation to participate in any research study.
  • Your participation is entirely voluntary and can be withdrawn by yourself at any time without needing to give any explanation.
  • The care and treatment you receive from Teldoc PCN will not be affected in any way if you choose not to take part in a research study.

You will always receive clear information about what taking part in a research study would involve. You will have the opportunity to ask questions and obtain further details about a study.
