What is a Data Protection Complaint?

A Data Protection complaint arises when someone considers that an organisation has infringed data protection legislation because of the way they’ve handled your personal information (or the personal information of someone you’re acting on behalf of).

For example, you might submit a Data Protection Complaint about:

  • the way we’ve responded to your subject access request (SAR), or other rights request.
  • the security measures we’ve used to store your information 
  • how we’ve collected or used your personal information (e.g. where we’ve stored it, how long we’ve kept it for, or its accuracy).

How do I make a Data Protection Complaint?

If you feel that we have infringed Data Protection legislation you can complain to us in a number of ways.

You don’t have to use legal terms or quote sections of the legislation. Making a complaint will not affect your care or treatment.

You can make a Data Protection complaint via the following routes:

  • Verbal- in person at reception or via telephone
  • Electronically by using the form below
  • In writing- Data Protection, Shifnal & Priorslee Medical Practice, Haughton Road, Shifnal, Shropshire, TF11 8DD.

How long will it be until you hear an outcome?

We are legally obliged to acknowledge your complaint within 30 working days. The time it takes to investigate your complaint will depend on the nature of the complaint. Wherever possible we will provide an estimated timeframe when we acknowledge your complaint and will endeavour to update you on our progress.

Making a complaint will not affect your care or treatment.

Complaining on Behalf of Someone Else

If you are complaining on behalf of someone else, we need to speak to the patient first and ask that you have their permission to do so or we will need the third party consent form completed.
